Excessive Salivation With Lingual Retainers After Braces?
my ortho treatment was completed two months ago (i had deep overbite)and now i have lingually bonded retainers in both the jaws. there has been excessive salivation since then and sometimes my tongue becomes stiff and uncomfortable to move. it is severe before meals, i am afraid to even completely open my mouth while talking or i might spit on the other person. Has something happened during ortho treatment or is it because of the retainers and will stop after six months when my retainers will be removed. please give advice.

Excessive salivation while having the lingual retainers is very common. Perhaps you don't remember when you first got your braces on, you had excessive saliva until you got use to the braces. Same thing goes for anything new in the mouth. You probably will have the same problem once the lingual retainers are removed and replace with a removable retainers to wear at night. Once you get use to any new appliance in the mouth, within time you will be good, it is just a matter of getting use to them and know where to place your tongue. Good Luck
