In cases where you have an overbite or underbite noted as a class 2 and class 3 bite, braces alone may not be enough to get the results you want.   By your age the jaw bones are already hard and the use of appliances and are not recommended.    Once your braces come off the retainers will be used to hold your teeth where they are.   This is to ensure stability.   If you are concerned about your bite or your teeth, than now is the time to speak up to your orthodontist before the braces come off.

Your teeth may move post braces if you do not wear your retainers as directed and possibly give the appearance that your jaw has moved, however this is most likely not the case.   It is all too often that we see patients not wear retainers as directed and their underbite or overbite that was corrected nicely, moves back to wear it was.   Stability and retention are key points to discuss with your orthodontist before taking braces off.
