Braces whitening issue

I have had my braces for about 2 months, they will be on for 18. I have been using a whitening toothpaste and mouthwash for one week. I then found out I shouldn\'t use whitening products while having the treatment. So if I stopped using all whitening products, will my teeth be normal when my braces are taken off? Or will they have yellow squares even though I\'ve only used it for about 1 week?

Answer: Whitening with braces

Whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses are not harmful to use during orthodontic treatment. These products simply reduce the amount of extrinsic stain that adheres to the teeth. They do not damage the brackets or wires in any way. Other whitening products, which remove intrinsic stain, such as Zoom, GLO, and custom fabricated trays for use with professional strength gels should be avoided until debanding. This is not because of harm to the brackets or teeth, however, it is because they will not be as effective. Your teeth wont have yellow squares after one week of use, nor if you continue to use the toothpaste and mouth rinses.
