Will my gums grow back over my jaw bone is they were accidentally cut ?

So I just recently had my wisdom teeth yanked out. All went fine except for the last one, the dentist kinda struggled getting it to come out. Well he ended up slicing a nice chunk of my gum off (where the tooth used to be) and now my jaw bone is exposed . I can still see the chunk of gum as its no longer in the area it should be (covering up my jaw bone). it is very painful and tender in that area my tongue is constantly rubbing. Up against it. My question is will this heal up over time ? Will my gums somehow grow back over my jaw bone? How serious is this ? Do i need to have a oral surgeon stitch my gums or grind the bone down ? Please answer need help
