Is shaving teeth to make even after Invisalign ok?

I am in my 20’s and just finished my Invisalign treatment. My lower teeth are not level and my general dentist doing the treatment told me we could do refinements. The problem is he told me last month that Invisalign would not perform the type of movements needed to even out the tops of my teeth. So I had a consultation with an orthodontics and he said that he was very confident he could correct my lower teeth with traditional braces. He also noticed I had a overbite that he said recommended fixing. I told my dentist doing my Invisalign what the orthodontics said and he now says he can make improvements with an Invisalign refinement. When I asked about the unevenness he said not to worry he could just shave down my teeth. The teeth are fairly uneven in spots I am thinking he might be doing a lot of shaving. Is it ok to shave down you teeth like this? I there a limit to home much should be shaved off? He also told me my bite was cosmetic and it didn’t matter. Is this true or is my bite something that should be fixed?

Answer: orthodontist!

My suggestion is to go with the orthodontist. You have gone through invisalign and yes you could benefit from a refinement. A refinement though is doing additional trays until you are happy with the results. It does not involve shaving the tops of your teeth down. After treatment is you are unhappy with the little mammalons on the top of your teeth, which most everyone has. They are the little bumps on top of the teeth then they can slightly reduce them. You dont want them to reduce them alot because then you are getting into healthy enamel. Keep in mind the only teeth that are completely flat on the top are dentures. If you do not want to look like you have them i would leave them alone. Now if your teeth are noticeably higher then the rest invisalign can work but traditional braces for a few months will get you better results. They can put bend in the wire training the teeth to align with eachother and either go up or down to match the other teeth. It can be done in about 1 month of treatment. If you have overbite still invisalign makes it difficult to correct that. To correct the bite you may need to wear rubber band also known as elastics. This can be done again with a few months of traditional braces. normally they are worn from the top to the bottom 24/7 except when eating. This trains your jaw to have an ideal bite.
