Is there anything I can do to treat gingivitis at home?

Hello. My gums are really swollen and they are getting worst. I have braces but I don't believe the braces are the cause because it only recently started doing this (in the last month). I'm assuming I have gingivitis. I have rinsed with salt water and month wash and nothing seems to be working. Is there anyway I can treat this? Thank you for your time.

Answer: Treating Gingivitis

Gingivitis is simply the inflammation of the gingiva or gum tissue. Gingivitis is easily treated with the proper brushing and flossing technique. When you have orthodontic brackets and wires, brushing and flossing can be more difficult, so you may find yourself modifying your technique. You should also be seeing your dental hygienist more frequently than normal. Orthodontists usually recommend a recare schedule of 1 time every 3-4 months, instead of every 6 months.
