Invisalign Braces Question

I'm currently in the process of Invisalign; I've completed 33/33 trays and we decided a refine was needed. The orthodontist removed the attachments and took pictures to re-order new trays. They wont be in for a month so I have to continue to wear my old trays until they arrive. After attachment removal, he used his drill to "shape" my front teeth. He didn't ask - he said he was just removing the attachments and buffing the teeth. He removed the roundness on my two front teeth to make them square. They were not uneven in the first place and I liked the way they looked. I didn't see a problem with the way they were before. This has completely changed my smile and how comfortable I feel about the changes. Is this standard practice? I'm really upset about the outcome and I didn't even know what he was doing. I don't know how to react because the damage is done.

Answer: Cosmetic Recontouring

By BracesInfo.com Expert 10

More than likely, your dentist performed what is called cosmetic recontouring. It is simply reshaping and polishing of the enamel. It will completely change your smile, even though it is a very small change. It is a very common procedure and most patients truly appreciate it, however that does not mean that every patient is. Most dentists inform the patient prior to performing the procedure and have their consent. I apologize that was not done prior to and that you are unhappy with the result. Mention it to the doctor at your next visit. It can be done in a respectful and professional manner. Maybe there is something that can be done to make you happy and confident with your smile again.
