Canine Teeth Are High in Gums

Hello, my canine teeth are coming in very high up in my gums, they haven't come in yet but I can feel them in my gums, also I was wondering if you think I will need rubber bands when I get bracesI have a deep bite and a very small space for my canine teeth to come in, how can my orthodontist make room for my canines, how will my canines come down once they have emerged, and will I need rubber bands with my treatment? My orthodontist says to wait on braces till my canine teeth fully come in but I have crowding on the bottom row of my teeth so it is hard to floss, for that reason I really want braces now

Answer: Canine teeth still erupting

Your orthodontist is very qualified and has seen your dental radiographs as well as your mouth in order to fabricate the best possible treatment plan to accomplish your goals.  Usually space is created by broadening the smile in the posterior teeth or sometimes in severe cases, posterior teeth may need to be removed.  Brackets will be placed on all the teeth except the canine teeth at first (if they are still partially impacted or not fully erupted).  Once there is enough space the brackets are placed on the canine teeth and brought into position.  Rubber bands are useful in shifting a bite, however they are usually not utilized in bringing teeth into position.  Crowding can make flossing difficult, however it will be even more difficult once brackets and wires are placed, so enjoy it now and be sure to continue with all your oral hygiene habits once you are in full braces as well.
