Why is there a bone or tooth coming out of my extraction site?
I had my wisdom teeth extracted 2 weeks ago, and the pain seemed to go away until about a week ago. At first, I didn't see the cause of the pain, but earlier today, I realized that there is something white growing out of my gum. I can't tell if it is a tooth or a bone. What should I do? I've read that they usually fall out on their own, or enter the blood stream, but I'm not sure.

Sometimes when a tooth is removed, the bone that was between the roots is no longer needed and breaks off. It will usually work itself out of the tissue, similar to a splinter. If it becomes uncomfortable, it can easily be removed from the tissue by your dentist. It will not enter the bloodstream and if it is swallowed should not cause any problems until it is discarded on it's own.
