It is very hard to estimate lab costs. Each lab varies especially with a porcelain crown. There are several types of porcelain crowns including captek, empress, zirconia, and CEREC to name a few. Some labs also charge for custom color, shipping and handeling, disinfection, model pour, articulation, etc. in addition to lab fees the dentist must charge for their time and costs. A single impression can cost as much as $85.00 depending I the material used. Usually there are 1-3 impressions gathered for an anterior crown case. They also have disinfection costs of the treatment room, the dental assisitant wages, buildup material and more. Twelve hundred dollars is an average fee. By asking this question, it seems you are unsure of what you are paying for and are questioning the charge. If you feel this way or are having any trust issues about the dentist, a second quote is recommended. It is best you are confident and feel comfortable in your decision as well as in the dentist before you proceed with any restorative treatment.
