Unbearable toothache. Could the problem be worse than time can heal?

About a week after I had my wisdom teeth removed, I had bitten on something very hard, like a rock, in my food, and have had unbearable pain for the last 4 days that won't go away. At first, the pain was in my lower molar that I had bitten on the rock with, but the next morning the pain resided in my top molar and was even worse. This tooth (the top molar) is a root canal tooth with a porcelain crown, so I thought at first my crown was actually loose and coming off. The pain was so excruciating that I rushed to the dentist right before they closed and requested that they see me right then. My dentist took x-rays and told me that biting on the rock had likely caused bruising in my gums and the swelling was pushing the crown out, and after the swelling went down, then the pain should go away. He told me that if the pain got worse to let him know, because I could have fractured my root and the x-ray doesn't show clearly enough whether that could have been the cause. He gave me hydrocodone, but this does help the pain subside at all (I would like to add that I am not a recreational opiate user). I'm also taking ibuprofen to help with the swelling and aspirin for the pain in spaced intervals, but the pain is still unbearable, so much so that I can hardly get any sleep at night, even with sleeping pills. Today I noticed that it has started bleeding as well. I can hardly handle the pain and am afraid it won't go away. What should I do & what could it be? Thank you so much for your help. Here's the timeline - I had bitten the hard object on Saturday (9 days after wisdom teeth removal, if it matters), went to the dentist Monday night, and today is now Tuesday. Thank you very much!
